10 Things to Do In Myrtle Beach (That Aren’t Just Going To The Beach)

Planning a trip to South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach? This blog will help you fill those hours not spent on the beach. There’s plenty to do, see, and eat!

1. Play Baseball at the Fun Plaza Arcade

Located on the scenic Ocean Boulevard Boardwalk, the Fun Plaza is a great place to spend an hour or two.  Check out the arcade game that Myrtle Beach go-ers have enjoyed for generations. No really– these machines have been around since the 1950s! Don’t worry, they don’t require quarters to play anymore.

2. Walk One of the Many Piers

View from the Myrtle Beach State Park Pier.

Choose your fighter:

  • Apache Pier – the pier that holds the record as the longest wooden fishing pier on the east coast.
  • 14th Avenue Pier – the pier where you can enjoy dinner atop the pier itself (Pier 14 Restaurant).
  • Cherry Grove Pier – the pier where the largest tiger shark in the US was caught (1964).
  • Myrtle Beach State Park Pier – the pier that includes free entry with the purchase of park admission.
  • Springmaid Pier – the pier where the largest spanish mackerel was caught (13lbs).
  • Surfside Pier – the pier that was most recently (re)opened.

3. Visit Atalaya Castle at Huntington State Park

View of Atalaya Castle’s Courtyard.

The home of Anna and Archer Huntington is nestled in Huntington State Park. The sturdy castle has withstood many hurricanes and was built as a vacation home with ample space for Anna to work on her sculptures. Check out Anna’s sculpture at Brookgreen Garden, just down the highway from the state park entrance. Admission is $2 per person, but free for SC State Parks Pass holders (+ 3 of their guests)

4. Visit the Aquarium

The Ripley’s Aquarium located at Broadway at the Beach is the perfect activity for a rainy day (or if you got too much sun and need a break from the beach). The main tank is 750,000 gallons – that’s 1.5 olympic swimming pools!

5. Play Golf! Of Any Kind!

Delight in a full 18-holes, walk a quick Par-3, or end your night with a silly game of putt-putt. There really is something for everyone. Plus, with 30 mini golf courses in the area, you don’t have to play the same course twice.

6. Listen to Live Music at The Bowery

Enjoy a piece of country music history while enjoying a cold one at The Bowery. Alabama, got their start here as the house band in the ‘70’s.

7. Shop at Broadway at the Beach

What’s a vacation without a little bit of cheesy tourism? Don’t worry, there’s more to do here than buy a few souvenirs. Pay your respects to Jimmy Buffett and Margaritaville, or enjoy Myrtle Beach’s most walkable golf course: Popstroke.

8. Enjoy Hot Krispy Kreme Glazed Donuts

If you don’t have a Krispy Kreme at home, a family vacation to Myrtle Beach is the perfect excuse for a dozen (or two?) Hot N’ Ready donuts. Keep an eye out for the red neon sign.  A handful of locations are designed so you can watch the donuts being made!

9. Eat Seafood!

You can’t visit the Carolina Coast without enjoying Carolina cuisine. We recommend Drunken Jacks, Damon’s Grille, and Driftwoods Seafood and Steak!

10. Enjoy Happy Hour at RipTydz Beachfront Rooftop Bar

RipTydz is Myrtle Beach’s largest grill and rooftop bar. Enjoy live music 7 days a week!
